Partial Dentures

Partial Dentures Can Fill the Gaps

Patients with several missing teeth and those who are edentulous (missing all teeth) may be good candidates for dentures. If you still have some healthy teeth, Dr. Daniel Lee may recommend partial dentures that are attached to existing teeth with a bridge or to a set of dental implants. Studies show that fixed partial dentures continue to provide a high standard of care for replacing missing teeth in adults. They are removable for regular cleanings and can be an attractive option for replacing missing teeth in adults of all ages. Since partial dentures are removable, the wearer needs to be very diligent about keeping the dentures clean and maintaining optimal oral health.

How Partial Dentures Work

There are essentially two types of partial dentures: fixed partials and removable partials. Dr. Daniel Lee will make a recommendation on the type of dentures that are most appropriate for you depending on how many healthy teeth you have in the mouth. Fixed partial dentures work by attaching artificial teeth to the jaw with dental implants or by placing a dental crown. Removable partial dentures are set with a metal framework that is custom-made odor the patient and provides similar functional and esthetic benefits to fixed partials. Regardless of the type of denture, it is the patient’s responsibility to keep their dentures clean by using special brushes and soaking the dentures in a denture cleanser when they are not wearing them.
